Speed Pedelec Insurance

Insurance is required to ride a Speed Pedelec in the UK.

Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find insurance brokers who understand what an S-Pedelec actually is, and many will simply say they do not offer cover.

If you are contacting insurers, the following points may help:

1. How Stromer bikes are classified

In the UK, a Stromer is classified as a 0cc electric moped, under tax class L1e-B.

2. Make and model

Make sure you tell the broker that the bike is a Stromer and specify the model you own. Stromer is listed as a recognised brand in most insurance databases.

3. Built-in security

Stromer bikes come with a factory-fitted alarm, immobiliser, and GPS tracker. Be sure to mention these features when obtaining a quote.

4. Additional security

Using a high-quality Sold Secure–rated lock is recommended, and you should inform the insurer if you use one.

Speed Pedelec DVLA, our OTR (On The Road) Service

We will process all of the following paperwork for you as part of our OTR service.

  • V267 (new vehicle import), V55/4 (Application for a licence for a new motor vehicle and declaration for registration), and certificate of conformity.

  • V267 and V55/4 are from the DVLA and can be found via the links below. The Certificate of conformity will be with the bike: we require this to complete the V267 and V55/4 form.

  • We will fill in and send the V267 and V55/4, along with the Certificate of Conformity to DVLA to register the bike. The cost of this is included in our OTR price.

  • We will then receive the V5c form for the bike now that is registered.

  • Speed Pedelecs are tax exempt due to zero emissions (at the time of writing).

  • We will provide a standard number plate which is included in our OTR price.
